Hi everyone. . . The blog is not really about having no traffic lights. . .the world would be a wreck! Like a demolition derby. . . We need traffic devices to keep some sense of order on the streets for vehicles and pedestrians. Think of what happens when the power goes out in an area with traffic lights. We become cavepeople or something. For some reason using the rule: "the person who arrives to the stoplight gets to go first" is a concept too difficult to apply.

So here is my idea: Instead of the physical traffic lights we see lovingly hanging over each intersection, adding charm to our cities (sorry for the sarcasm), each car will have a "heads-up" display that will show on our windshield, the proper color light, or turn arrow that applies to our car as it approaches the intersection. I have some details worked out, and many more to be worked out. I will definitely need help getting this idea accepted to local municipalities and Dept. of Transportations of each state.
I will post more later. . . Thank you!

  1. Hi Anthony,

No more traffic lights... I think its a realy good idea... Im am an Industrial Design Student form Vienna and we had and Project called "Intelligent Traffic Signs" which we did 3 years ago.

The main idea was to Remove all the traffic signs, traffic lines and lights away from the street.

    Instead we suggest following:

The whole traffic situation will be projected on our windscreen through Head Up Display (HUD) and simply reduced to „STOP“ and „GO“.

The same way as we look through the windscreen today - two green lines on both sides of the road will guide our way. These green lines show us when free to drive and all turning options. In case of collision or dangerous situation, lines become red and come together building a closed loop in front of our car, while in crossroads they form a virtual red traffic light.
